Pfizer Announces The Conclusion Of An Agreement With Kuwait To Supply The Corona Vaccine

According to alqabas The Ministry of Health announced today, Tuesday, that the possible BNT162 vaccine based on RNA to prevent (Covid-19) disease will arrive in the country at the end of this year and will be subject to approval by local regulatory authorities.

In a press statement, the Assistant Undersecretary for Medicines and Medical Supplies at the Ministry, Abdullah Al-Badr, expressed his happiness for the agreement reached between the State of Kuwait and Mainz-Germany, which was announced by Pfizer and BioNTech today and the conclusion of an agreement with the Ministry of Health to supply the vaccine.

Al-Badr said that based on the ministry’s request, the vaccine will be delivered by the end of 2020 and during 2021 after completing clinical tests and obtaining the necessary approvals from the local regulatory authorities, adding that the financial details of this agreement have not been disclosed.

He explained that “serving citizens will remain at the top of our list of priorities, as we have taken all measures to receive the (Covid-19) vaccine and store it in our facilities at a temperature of -70 degrees Celsius, and our partnership with Pfizer and BioNTech comes as part of our efforts to combat the virus.”

He stated that the agreement falls under the global commitment of Pfizer and BioNTech to confront the global (Covid-19) crisis.

On her part, Pfizer Chief Business Officer in the Gulf region, Lindsay Ditchie, said, "We are very honored to cooperate with the Kuwaiti government in order to mobilize all our scientific and manufacturing resources in order to achieve our common goal of providing the potential Covid-19 vaccine to the Kuwaiti people as soon as possible."

Ditch explained that achieving Pfizer's goal (achievements that improve patients' lives) has become a greater necessity than ever before, hoping that the vaccine will help achieve this, "and this depends on success in clinical tests and regulatory aspects alike."

For his part, BioNTech Chief Business and Commercial Affairs Officer Sean Maret thanked the Kuwaiti government for its support and confidence in their ability "to develop a vaccine that we believe is capable of confronting this global epidemic threat."

Mariet emphasized that the goal is to provide global supplies of a safe and effective vaccine against (Covid-19) to many people around the world as soon as possible.

Both Pfizer and BioNTech began obtaining regulatory approvals this November and are expected to manufacture up to 1.3 billion doses globally by the end of 2021.

Informed health sources revealed to Al-Qabas in the current November 22 issue that the Ministry of Health is following up the latest developments in vaccines that have entered the last stages of testing, with the aim of reviewing their results and the extent of their obtaining official accreditation from specialized international health organizations.

The sources said that the Ministry of Health is closely monitoring the rapid developments of about 9 vaccines that entered the race in the final stages in preparation for their approval and licensing after clinical tests, adding that the current competition between American, German, British, Chinese, Russian and Swedish vaccines will not be imported. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) or the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).


She pointed out that the 9 experimental vaccines fall within the "Kovacs" initiative led by the World Health Organization and aims to distribute two billion doses of protective Covid 19 vaccine by the end of next year, pointing out that the Ministry of Health will not be obligated to complete its contract with any company whose vaccine has not received the accreditations Official.

According to the sources, the vaccines «Moderna, Pfizer, and Oxford-AstraZenica» are the closest to obtaining the approvals of international health authorities and organizations regarding the initiation of regional distribution. It is expected that the Pfizer vaccine will be the closest to entering Kuwait first in the second half of next month, especially after it has submitted Pfizer and its partner, Biontech, on Friday, requested an emergency permit in the United States to use the Covid 19 vaccine.
