The Minister of Health, Dr. Basel Al-Sabah, recommended new ways to tackle coronavirus if the cases continue to rise for the next 6 to 10 weeks, Al-Qabas reported.

Among the list of recommendations of the minister included imposing a partial curfew in the country from 9 pm to 4 am for two weeks, suspending commercial flights to and from Kuwait, closing malls and any activity that permit gatherings for a period of two weeks, prohibiting eating in restaurants but allowing delivery service, in addition, area restrictions can also be inforced if there is the possibility of a coronavirus outbreak.

As part of the recommended immediate measures included reducing working hours in commercial activities from 10 am to 8 pm, enacting decisions and legislation to encourage remote work, and to ensure abidance of quarantine and home quarantine regulation.

In an explanation to the Cabinet, the Minister of Health confirmed that an increase in the number of coronavirus cases is suspected, and when a total curfew was enforced in the country, it led to a decrease in the number of coronavirus cases at a rate of more than 40%.

The Minister of Health presented a series of recommendations to the Council of Ministers, including immediate recommendations that included reducing working hours in commercial activities from 10 am to 8 pm, and others to be applied after 6 to 10 weeks if the increase in infections continued, including the partial curfew and the suspension of commercial flights to and from Kuwait.

Along with that MOH further recommends reducing working hours in commercial activities from 10 am to 8 pm with a commitment to apply an appointment system to avoid crowding. Imposing an appointment system in restaurants and set working hours until 9 pm. Close shops and commercial activities that do not comply with the precautionary measures for a period of three days, with an increased penalty for continuing non-compliance. Reducing crowds in sports clubs by preventing fans from attending sports matches. Preventing the establishment of spring camps.

Furthermore, MOH emphasized governmental and private work agencies to form teams to follow up compliance with health requirements and ensure penalties are levied in case they have been breached. Enacting a law to impose immediate fines for failing to wear a face mask, as well as immediate fines for gatherings. Enacting decisions and legislation to encourage remote work.

Lastly, for the protection of high-risk groups, MOH recommends the prevention of influenza infection (the winter vaccination campaign), as it has been proven that the death rate due to infection with Covid-19 infection associated with influenza is twice the rate of death from infection with Covid-19 alone.
