Panel Formed To Review Power Tariff Rates In Industrial Sector
Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water Dr Khaled Al-Fadhel has formed a committee to amend the electricity and water tariff rates, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to informed sources from the ministry, the committee is headed by the ministry’s Undersecretary Eng Mohammad Boushahri. It will prepare a study on the tariff rates mentioned in the ministerial decision No. 28/2017 and submit recommendations, taking into consideration the tariff rates that apply during peak hours of consumption.
The sources said, “The decision to form the committee was taken after the industrial sector pleaded for review of its consumption tariff rate under the pretext of supporting the national produce and local manufacture”.
They affirmed that the committee will prepare a comprehensive study which will be referred to the minister, and it is highly expected that the study will recommend reduction of tariff rates for the industrial sector.
The sources explained that the tariff rate for private houses are fixed as per the law and it will not change. The committee will prepare and review the consumption tariff rates for the sectors specified in the aforementioned ministerial decision.
