Nyc Declares Emergency Due To Record-breaking Rain

02 September 2021 International

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency due to the continued unprecedented floods caused by heavy rainfall, which paralyzed the entire general transportation network.

De Blasio, via his Twitter account, called on people to stay indoors, stay off the streets, and
avoid travel until this dangerous tropical storm passes. At least five flash-flood emergencies were issued on Wednesday evening by the National Weather Service, stretching from west of Philadelphia through northern New Jersey.

The latest flash flood emergency included Newark, New Jersey’s largest city, with rainfall
estimates between four to eight inches of water and about 10 inches in some isolated areas.

Hurricane Ida barreled into New Jersey and New York City on Tuesday with furious, wind-driven rain that halted the region after suspending all transportation.
