02 February 2022 Kuwait

The Ministry of Health said about 720,000 citizens and residents have so far received the third booster dose of the “Covid-19” vaccine.

Informed health sources revealed to Al-Jarida that a number of files will take priority with the Ministry of Health during the next few days, including the file of managing and operating the new Jahra Hospital by the Koreans, in addition to the new Al-Adan Hospital.

The sources confirmed that among the ministry’s priorities is also to discuss the proposed new organizational structure for the ministry, the issue of nursing, and the termination of contracts for a number of expatriate nurses during the last period, especially in light of the current epidemiological situation, which necessitates not neglecting medical and nursing staff, as it is the main element to face the repercussions of “Corona”.

In conjunction with these challenges, the Ministry of Health continues its measures to confront the pandemic, and its statistics confirmed that the number of citizens and residents who received the third booster dose of the “Covid-19” vaccine amounted to about 720 thousand.

It revealed that the number of those who received a single dose amounted to 3,367,483 people or 86 percent and that those who received full immunization with two doses of the protective vaccination against the Coronavirus reached 3,257,244 people or 83 percent of those targeted for vaccination.

In a separate topic, the World Health Organization urged expanding access to available vaccines against “Covid-19” in countries with low coverage, with priority given to groups most at risk of severe disease and death, in light of the rapid spread of the “Omicron” mutant, which causes Sharp increases in cases worldwide, and overburdened health systems.

The Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, reported that Omicron mortality and hospitalization rates remain relatively stable in countries with high vaccination rates.

He added weeks after the WHO announced that Omicron was a worrisome mutant, almost every country in the world is now reporting the discovery of the highly contagious Omicron.

He added that although Omicron generally causes less severe disease than the worrisome Delta mutant, it can still lead to hospitalization and death, particularly among the unvaccinated.

Al-Mandhari added that although millions of people are affected by this latter mutation around the world, there is good news that vaccines on the WHO emergency use list provide a high level of prevention of severe illness and death from omicron, as it did with previous mutants.
