Not Possible To Set Timeline For Kuwaitization Implementation
With the Parliament’s Human Resource Committee demanding the government set a timeline for implementing the Kuwaitization policy, the State Minister for Economic Affairs Maryam Al-Aqeel affirmed that it is not possible to set a timeline for the implementation of Kuwaitization policy in all ministries and state institutions, reports Al-Rai daily.
She indicated that the entire Kuwaitization process depends on the labor market’s needs and the education output. Chairperson of Parliament’s Human Resources Committee MP Khalil Al-Saleh had requested the State Minister for Economy Affairs, in her capacity as the in-charge of all files related to implementation of Kuwaitization policy and curbing unemployment, to provide a specific endorsed mechanism in this regard as well as the timeline on which the policy will be based. He said the committee has agreed with the minister to present the mechanism in the coming two weeks, and that the committee will not accept studies, statistics and documents, given that it is ready to implement any mechanism, provided it has a timeline instead of promises and documents which keep on piling in the committee’s drawers. Last week, the MP reminded that the committee wants the “Kuwaitization” policy to be implemented by about 90 percent in the next five years with the remaining percentage allocated for expatriates in the technical fields. He stressed that the committee will request the minister for the studies and statistics that the government announced about in the previous years.
MP Al-Saleh said he wondered why the government’s pace is slow when it comes to implementing the Kuwaitization policy, and why it has not yet been implemented as it was announced. He added that he also wonders if there are any obstacles that need to be addressed, or if there are some hands that are striving to frustrate its implementation in both sectors.
