Non-graduate Palestinians (60+) Have Trouble Renewing Their Work Permits

08 February 2022 Kuwait

Many non-graduate Palestinians residing in Kuwait, aged 60 and more, appear to be experiencing short-term happiness because they are unable to renew their work licences due to a lack of 'authentic' Palestinian travel credentials, as required by law.

Although this category of Palestinians is excluded from paying the entire fees – 250 dinars for work permit renewal and 500 dinars for private health insurance – Al-Qabas has learned that the most, if not all, of them do not have original Palestinian travel documents to be eligible for exemption.

According to reports, the majority of Palestinians living and working in Kuwait have travel documents from other Arab countries, including temporary Jordanian passports and passports from Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon.

Despite the decision to exclude Palestinians from passport holders, the renewal does not include these Palestinian inhabitants.

According to the Jordanian Civil Status and Passports Department's website, Jordanian temporary passports are provided to inhabitants of the West Bank who do not have a national number, as well as residents of the Gaza Strip residing in Jordan who meet the qualifications.
