No Vision Tabled To Raise Residency Fees For Expats
High ranking sources disclosed that no vision or proposal has been tabled as yet by the Council of Ministers to raise residency visa fees for expatriates. In response to a question about government’s intention to sanction additional charges for services offered to expatriates, among them residency visas and healthcare, sources said nothing has been referred to the cabinet so far.
As to amending Law No. 79/1995 to increase service charges and other tariffs for the benefit of the state which the National Assembly is opposed to, and the alternative plan of Government for this purpose, sources indicated “there is no alternative plan until now although a proposal has been submitted to make a list of each service the Government sees as important or necessary to amend its fees, but no concrete decision has been taken as yet.”
With the hike in prices of some commodities, especially fresh foodstuffs and fish, they stressed that cabinet is waiting for the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources, Interior Ministry and Trade Ministry in coordination with Kuwait Fishermen Union to present suitable measures and solutions to curb the impending prices hike after relevant bodies have been given a month to find practical solutions to curtail the phenomenon.
Responding to whether or not fishermen will be exempted from the new diesel and fuel prices, sources said they are still waiting for the final report and outcome of discussions in that concern.
