No Kuwaitis Available As Mpw Suffers Shortage Of Techies
The Ministry of Public Works is currently suffering from a shortage of Kuwaiti technical workers in its central workshops, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting sources. Sources pointed out that this problem led to the suspension of work in Subhan and Shuwaikh workshops; indicating the State Audit Bureau (SAB) included this in its comments under the title: “Unavailability of Specialized Technical Workers to Operate the Workshops,” in its previous report. This is one of the perennial problems in the ministry, sources disclosed.
Sources said most of the equipment and their maintenance require high level of expertise and accuracy, but no Kuwaiti is available to do the job. Sources revealed the ministry had earlier asked the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to provide Kuwaitis specialized in this field and the latter confirmed that no one among the citizens registered in the central employment system is qualified for this job.
Sources added the ministry hires such workers through sub-contracts to operate the workshops, including welders, plumbers, blacksmiths, carpenters and mechanics. Sources went on to say that a recommendation was presented earlier in line with the implementation of the replacement policy, such that the expatriate technical workers will train Kuwaitis. However, the lack of material encouragement for Kuwaitis to work in this field made it difficult for the ministry to hire them for the aforementioned jobs, sources concluded.
