No Ban For Driving On The Left Lane

The Public Relations and Security Media Department of Ministry of Interior denied the news that has been circulating on social media that the ministry has banned motorists from driving on the left lane of the roads as per the traffic rules and regulations.

In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, the department affirmed that the traffic rules and regulations in this regard have not changed expect for the inclusion of the violation of driving on the left lane based on Article 207 of the traffic law. The article stipulates that the vehicle will be seized for two months if the driver violates this law by driving on the left lane.

Concerning driving on the right lane, the department affirmed that the ban still stands. It stressed that using the right lane is absolutely prohibited as it is designated only for emergency purposes.

It reiterated the rules concerning driving on the left lane which are – The speed of the vehicles should not exceed 45 km/hr on the emergency lanes of the following roads: King Abdulaziz expressway to and from sixth ring road and third ring road, King Fahad expressway to and from sixth ring road and first ring road, King Faisal expressway to and from sixth ring road and fourth ring road, Ghazali road and fourth ring road, fith ring road from King Abdulaziz expressway unti l Andalous intersection and sixth ring road and King Abdulaziz expressway until Farwaniya hospital intersection.
