New Government In March

14 January 2021 Kuwait

Less than 24 hours after the ministers placed their resignations at his disposal, the Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, raised to His Highness the Amir, yesterday morning, the government's resignation letter.

Informed sources confirmed to Al-Qabas that the re-assignment of Al-Khaled to form the new government is close, indicating that he will start immediately upon his assignment to conduct the necessary consultations and contacts to form the government.

The sources said that Al-Khaled will take his time to choose the members of his third government, which is likely to be announced next March.

Meanwhile, parliamentary pressure continued to push the government to respond to "popular demands" as a compulsory path for cooperation with it during the next stage.

Representatives who signed the statement of the 16 representatives stressed in statements to Al-Qabas that the ball is now in the government's court and it must prove its seriousness in extending the hand of cooperation with the National Assembly, especially in the file of amending the electoral system.

MP Hamad Al-Matar considered that the statement, which was signed the day before yesterday by 16 deputies, is a road map for the upcoming period, and on the basis of which the features of government-parliamentary cooperation will be drawn, indicating that government statements will not be satisfied, as the time for statements has ended and what is required is real and serious work.

He added, "Today we need real and tangible cooperation from the government, especially with the priorities contained in the statement, including national reconciliation, more freedoms, amending the election law, preventing conflict of interests, the welfare of society, employing Kuwaitis, and other requirements."

MP Sort Al-Dihani emphasized that the criterion for cooperation between the parliament and the government is the popular requirements included in the statement.

Al-Daihani said that the criterion in cooperation is the commitment to fulfill these requirements, and if they do not cooperate, their role as MPs is to use their constitutional tools.

For his part, MP Fayez Al-Jamhour emphasized that the criterion for measuring the credibility of the next government in its cooperation with the representatives is the implementation of laws and popular demands and acting according to its framework.

In turn, MP Saleh Al-Mutairi stressed that the hand of cooperation is extended, and the mistake will be held accountable, as there are many entitlements and laws submitted by the members, adding, "We are facing a new government that requires us to deal with it, so we do not deal with persons or names."
