The National Security Bureau said Monday Kuwait-based Regional Center of NATO and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) was currently focusing on cybersecurity, crises management, energy security and civil emergencies planning.

The center is also focusing on responding to chemical, biological, nuclear and radioactive accidents, said Sheikh Fawaz Al-Sabah, head of Security information and follow-up at the Bureau.

Sheikh Fawaz, in a statement following a meeting of ICI advisory group, said the two-day meeting touched upon the development of relations and partnership between ICI countries and NATO members.

The informal meeting, which also discussed preparations for NATO's June summit in Brussels, featured participation of medium--level commanders, academics, NATO members' representatives and ICI countries - Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE. Saudi, Omani and GCC Secretariat officials also attended the meeting.

NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Police, Alejandro Alvargonzalez, thanked Kuwait for hosting the advisory group meeting for the second time. He said NATO Secretary General considered ICI Regional Center a land-mark in relations between NATO and Kuwait.
