Municipalities Should Hold Companies Responsible For Allowing Their Workers To Clean Schools

07 March 2022 Kuwait

Kuwait Municipality Services Sector had a meeting today with general hygiene departments from all governorate branches to examine the issue of scattered cleaning personnel in schools, according to the Municipality.

"The cleaning contracts concluded with the Municipality do not allow company workers to be inside government buildings and facilities and perform any additional tasks," Municipality sources told a local Arabic daily, "and the terms of the contracts do not allow companies to work for two parties at the same time, so cleaning schools is not part of the contract."

"The number of cleaners is stated in each contract, and they are dispersed according to a precise plan under the supervision of the company and the Municipality, and if there is any default, the company will be held directly accountable," according to the sources.

"The Municipality will hold the cleaning companies accountable that allowed their workers to clean some schools without referring to the concerned administration, and the Ministry of Education will be contacted to determine if it was an individual act by some schools by attracting workers from the street to clean the classrooms and play areas, especially since this matter is considered a 'beggary' that the Municipality has been struggling with for a long time," the sources said.
