Mpw Takes All Possible Preventive Measures To Avoid Rain Disasters

30 November 2020 Information

The Ministry of Public Works is determined to see that the repercussion of the earlier rainy seasons does not occur this time around, bearing in mind what happened in the 2018 season, which meteorologists described as ‘destructive’ because the rainfall was the heaviest for 50 years, and it unfolded many defects and negativeness in the infrastructure in a number of areas.
Torrential rain throughout Kuwait wreaked havoc on the streets and multiple residential areas. Many people trapped in their vehicles were rescued by the Fire Department.

Informed sources said the ministry has left no stone unturned to see the smooth passage of the rainy season this year and addressed all the shortcomings in critical places and areas which earlier were scenes of the so-called ‘disaster’.

The areas that suffered most notably were the intersection of Fahaheel, Sabahiya and the Ahmadi plateau. And the city of Sabah Al-Ahmad, the Seventh Ring Road, Doha Link, Qairawan, Al-Shaddadiya, Sabah Al-Nasser and other areas along the Fahaheel Road which were filled with water.

Solved
The ministry has almost solved all these problems and taken necessary preventive measures to avoid main roads from becoming flood spots and personnel and equipment has been put on standby to meet any eventuality during the rainy season.

The sources indicated that the ministry has identified the stages of implementing the plan, the most important of which is the necessary preparations before the rainy season which began in early August until mid-November in addition to cleaning all drainages, manholes and pipelines connected to them, as well as cleaning all sewers in collaboration with Public Authority for Roads Transport and the ministry’s maintenance sector.

In his regard, in addition to the preparation the ministry is using the ‘Vacuum Flasher Knorr’ pumps to suck water from flooded areas, to remove sand and residues that have accumulated on the drainage rooms, and cleaning the manholes and sewage lines in places where the water gets clogged. The sources indicated the ministry also coordinates with the Kuwait Municipality to clear clogged drainage systems and also with the Meteorological Department for daily reports which helps it to prepare in a better way for the rainy weather.

The ministry also said in complete readiness, 3 emergency teams are working around the clock in each governorate, in coordination with the roads authority.
