Mpw Getting Fully Geared Up For Rainy Season

30 October 2021 Kuwait

The Ministry of Public Works has raised the state of emergency in preparation for the rainy season, which usually sees flooding in some main and internal streets and other areas of Kuwait.

Informed sources told Al-Qabas daily MPW Assistant Undersecretary Eng Walid Al-Ghanim said the ministry is in the process of ensuring all necessary measures are taken in coordination with other state authorities, foremost of which are the firefighting, traffic and civil defense forces to contain the ‘ugly’ situations in the country when some of areas remain submerged under water.

The sources said Eng Al-Ghanim stressed, during his meeting with senior officials last week, the necessity of lifting the state of emergency throughout the current period, which is expected to witness sporadic rain in the country, with an emphasis on the presence of contractors’ teams at critical points and also ensure the tunnel pumps are not faulty.

This is in addition to the presence of technicians around the clock during rains. As well as following up the condition of the artificial lakes in Ahmadi and Jahra and their ability to store rain to protect the surrounding residential areas.
