Public and parliamentary reactions to the death of Kuwaiti citizen Walid Al-Selaili have called for an investigation to determine whether the citizen was tortured or subjected to violence. Abdelkareem Al-Kandari, MP, urged the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to act to stop certain security forces from violating the law.

According to him, students should be taught how to deal with individuals and protect human rights at the College of Security Sciences by upgrading the curriculum and methodology. By conducting transparent investigations and imposing tough penalties on violators, he said, the second step will be taken seriously.

According to Khalid Al-Anzi, enforcing tough procedures will discourage others from violating, as long as they believe that they won't be punished for such acts. Individuals' dignity and lives are at risk of more violations, he warned. According to MP Thamer Al-Suwait, he will closely monitor the procedures which will be taken in this regard following the statement issued by the Ministry of Interior. In addition to supporting the citizens, law and justice, he stressed that he would continue to do so.

Specifically, Abdullah Al-Mudaf urged the interior minister and other security authorities to expedite investigations. According to him, the investigations must be conducted with the highest level of transparency and neutrality, in compliance with Article 31 of the Constitution: "No person may be arrested, imprisoned, searched, have his residence restricted or be restricted in freedom of residence or movement except in accordance with the law.". People must not be tortured or treated ignominiously.”

Unless a comprehensive reform process is adopted, this is not the first and it will not be the last incident in which security officers targeted citizens. He stressed that torture is totally unacceptable, since it is illegal. Torturers should be punished, he said
