Mps Propose To Grant Citizenship To Bedoons
The Bedoun case will witness a new phase of parliamentary- government negotiations during a meeting of the Parliament’s Interior and Defense Committee on Sunday, April 10, as 11 lawmakers have submitted 11 proposals for granting citizenship to 4,000 Bedoun residents of Kuwait.
They said Ministry of Interior decided to attend the meeting of Parliamentary Committee on Sunday in order to conclude the negotiations on the issue of Bedoun naturalization. Revealing that the ministry has been decisive in excluding the National Assembly from dealing with this issue because it is within the sovereignty of the state, the sources said the ministry is planning to reject all the Parliamentary proposals in this regard during the meeting.
Confirm
They indicated that Ministry of Interior will confirm its commitment to the naturalization of eligible individuals based on the report of the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR), adding that the year 2016 will not witness any naturalization of large numbers of stateless residents. It is reported that those granted the citizenships will not exceed 300 people. The citizenship will be granted to children of Kuwaiti women, martyrs and military officials and there is no room for negotiations in this matter.
