Mps Affirm Lock On Speakership
A total of 36 MPs-elect reaffirmed their commitment to vote for MP-Elect Bader Al-Humaidi as National Assembly Speaker during the third consultative meeting held in the house of MP-elect Marzouq Al-Khalifa on Saturday.
Al-Khalifa disclosed that almost 90 percent of the MPs-elect support Al-Humaidi, describing this percentage as unprecedented in the history of Kuwait. He urged the government to support the citizens’ decision which is reflected in this agreement among the MPs-elect.
He affirmed the MPs-elect are ready to cooperate with the government, but they will adopt another position in case the government has a different opinion. He said they already decided on the Speakership; but no agreement has been reached regarding the deputy Speaker as there are more than one candidate for the post – Hassan Jawhar, Essa Al-Kandari, Ahmed Al-Shuhoumi and Mubarak Al-Hajraf. He also unveiled his plan to submit a bill on addressing the Bedoun issue in the opening session slated for Tuesday, confirming the bill is based on the view of Kuwait Lawyers Society regarding the issue.
On the other hand, MP-elect Osama Al-Shaheen revealed an agreement has been reached to support him in the nomination for Assembly observer position; indicating MPs-elect Al- SaifiMubarak Al-Saifiand Farz Al-Daihani are the contenders for the Secretary General post.
