Mp Thamer Al-suwait Submitted A Bill Mandating Restaurants, Commercial Complexes, Coops And Market To Close During Friday Prayers
Coming from a religious standpoint and based on Article Two of the Constitution, MP Thamer Al-Suwait submitted a bill mandating restaurants, commercial complexes, cooperative societies and market places to close during Friday prayers.
He argued Article Two of Constitution stipulates that the country’s religion is Islam and the Sharia Law is the source of legislation. He also pointed out that the explanatory note of the Constitution states the article refers to legislators and their obligation to take into consideration the Islamic culture and Sharia Law in their legislative initiatives.
He asserted that Islam calls on believers to stop their commercial activities once the call for Friday prayer is made.
Since the Advisory Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs advised the same numerous times, the MP decided to submit this bill. Article Two of the bill stipulates imposing KD 1,000 fine and closure of establishment for at least one month on those proven to have violated the law.
On the other hand, MP Osama Al-Shaheen submitted a proposal to appoint only Kuwaitis as managers in companies affiliated to the Customs Department. He said the department is an entry point for all goods from other countries; hence, it is one of the most important pillars of the State’s finances.
In order to ensure the security of such vital governmental structure and the strict implementation of laws and regulations, the MP proposed that only Kuwaitis should serve as managers in companies dealing with customs and ports
