MP Riyadh Al-Adsani disclosed that he rejected the previous amnesty draft law because it was vague, so there is a possibility of including drug-related cases and other provisions.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Al-Adsani pointed out that even if the Assembly approved the amnesty draft law, HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah has the right to reject it. If the Assembly insists on approving the draft law, it might be dissolved – similar to what happened in the case of the KD 50 salary increase bill in the past. He added His Highness the Amir can grant special amnesty and he has no objection to this.

On the other hand, MP Abdul Kareem Al-Kandari asserted Monday was a sad day for the country as no one is happy about the verdict on the Parliament building storming case. He revealed that he and MP Mohammed Al-Dalal decided to meet next week with other lawmakers to discuss their next steps stressing, “We trust the judiciary. We will wait for the ruling of the Court of Cassation.” Commenting on the amnesty issue, Al-Kandari stressed the current situation necessitates issuance of a general amnesty; while urging HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al- Hamad Al-Sabah to form the government next week, if not, he must prepare for a grilling.

Al-Dalal had earlier arranged a parliamentary meeting in his office to talk about implications of the ruling of the Court of Appeals. He said 16 MPs attended the meeting, disclosing some were absent because they traveled.

During the meeting, they agreed to form two teams led by MPs Abdullah al-Roumi and Mohammed Hayef to look into options and follow up the situation of those imprisoned and their families. The next meeting is slated for Sunday. These MPs intend to request for a meeting with HH the Amir to discuss the ruling, wishing the Amir will pardon those sentenced to jail. They also stressed the need for everyone to keep in mind that the country is in a dangerous situation.
