Mp Panel Holds Line On Iraqi Invasion In Curricula, Committee Also Rejected Proposals To Change School Timings

The parliamentary Education Affairs Committee on Sunday approved the proposal to maintain the term ‘Iraqi invasion’, along with the associated subjects in the public and private education curricula.

The committee also rejected proposals to change school timings, terminate contracts with teachers from countries whose ranking in the quality of education index is lower than Kuwait, and move the beginning of the school year to first week of October. Meanwhile, the National Assembly will hold its ordinary sessions on Tuesday and Thursday with 13 agenda items, hoping for conclusion of discussions on the Amiri speech which will be referred to the parliamentary committee tasked to prepare the Assembly’s response.

The Assembly will also look into the Health Affairs Committee’s report about the proposed amendment of Law No. 1/1999 on the health insurance for foreigners and fees for medical services. In another development, Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic and Operations Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Jamal Al-Sayegh recently met representatives of the concerned authorities to finalize preparations for the supplementary legislative elections on March 16.

Al-Sayegh stressed the importance of heavy security presence on the day of election to safeguard Kuwait’s democratic history. Representatives of the Education and Justice ministries attended the meeting with the aim of ensuring smooth flow of voting procedures and that election halls are fully equipped to receive voters.
