Mp Highlights Importance Of Finance Grilling
MP Riyadh Al-Adsani has stressed the importance of his interpellation motion against Finance Minister Nayef Al-Hajraf, which will be discussed in Tuesday’s session, as it addresses complicated issues such as violations and legal guidelines on the State Budget and Final Accounts Law.
Speaking to reporters at the National Assembly Media Center on Monday, he affirmed there is clear evidence of misappropriation and exploitation of public funds in multiple cases; the most prominent of which involves the former head of the Public Institution for Social Security who fled the country after being suspected of embezzling public funds. He pointed out this issue is not being addressed adequately, similar to the port funds case and other violations. He also cited the incorrect, incomplete and misleading information in the Finance Ministry’s reports.
“This is why the minister is required to elaborate on the interpellation points,” asserted the MP. He hopes the minister will clarify future investment policies in an honest and transparent manner, especially the merger of Kuwait Finance House and Ahli United Bank as a total of KD 90 billion worth of bonds are in question. He added the constant transfer and re-appropriation of articles of the State budget led to the discovery of these violations, so he called on his fellow MPs to trust their resolve and judge fairly in spite of the Assembly’s majority being discontent over the issue.
He stressed that all concerned individuals are respected, and this interpellation is simply a realization of the minister’s accountability over authorities under his supervision. Supported with documented facts, he is hoping the interpellation will pave way for reformative action under the watch of the Kuwaiti public.
