Mp Has Submitted A Proposal To Safeguard Values, Morals, Civility & Respectable Social Behaviors

12 September 2019 Kuwait

MP Majed Al-Mutairi has submitted a proposal to safeguard values, morals, civility and respectable social behaviors.

In his explanatory note, the MP said the country has been witnessing spread of what he described as “loose morals;” indicating obscene behaviors, bullying and other immoral acts have been recorded.

“These phenomena endanger the Kuwaiti identity which has always been known for good conduct and compassion,” he affirmed.

Therefore, this proposal aims to prevent untoward incidents and negative phenomena such as blaring music, vandalism, littering, inappropriate clothing, verbal abuse and provocations, he added.

The bill stipulates fine ranging from KD 500 to KD 1,000 for anyone found guilty of breaking the moral code and acceptable behaviors outlined in the bill with a multiplier to be applied on repeat offenders.

In another development, MP Ahmed Al-Fadel disclosed that some officials at the Ministry of Interior are covering up officials suspected of affiliation with fake social media accounts which instigate political chaos.

He said the Public Prosecution recently detained a high ranking official suspected of affiliation with a face social media account and he has been released on bail until investigations are concluded. The lawmaker clarified that he took on this issue due to its dangerous implications on the stability of the country, especially since such accounts constantly post baseless rumors to incite the public.

He added the recent developments revealed that some ministry officials are trying to cover up the suspects. He forwarded a letter to the National Assembly on this matter in January, but some of his colleagues accused him of wasting time of the Assembly and disregarded his concerns.

Considering the recent discovery and sensitivity of the issue, he called on the government to suspend the suspected official until the investigations are completed.

Furthermore, MP Mohammed Al- Huwaila submitted a proposal allowing public sector employees to convert their unused leave days into cash, similar to their counterparts in military institutions. He said this will help citizens cope with the rising cost of living and it could be an alternative to obtaining loans.
