Moroccan Authorities Arrested Four Individuals For Blackmailing A Kuwaiti Citizen
Moroccan authorities have concluded investigation on the issue of four individuals, including a girl, arrested for blackmailing a Kuwaiti citizen, reports Al-Anba daily. Lawyer Al-Kandari left the country for the Kingdom of Morocco to submit a petition and file lawsuit against the first suspect for blackmailing the plaintiff using his still and motion photo obtained via social media.
With arrest of the last three persons, the number of accused has reached four — all of them Moroccans. They admitted filming and blackmailing the Kuwaiti citizen (34 years old) through the lady when she made friends with him via social networking site ‘Line, and obtained his photos. She went ahead and shared the photos with the three suspects based on a previous agreement, and they threatened to upload them on social media if he refused to transfer the ransom they were demanding. The accused managed to extort KD 4,000 from the plaintiff.
;Apparently, he was obliged to transfer the sum in order to avoid a scandal but the accused still uploaded the clip on the side of YouTube that automatically rejects erotic films. They threatened again to upload it on social media, including Instagram. Plaintiff lawyer Ali Al-Kandari said the case is postponed until Sept 27 pending judgement. Al-Kandari is the first Kuwaiti lawyer going this far to file lawsuit against suspects for blackmailing a Kuwaiti citizen through personal photos they obtained on social media.
Following the necessary legal procedures with the Moroccan Public Prosecution, arrest warrant was issued against the first suspect and she was charged to court. Investigation led to arrest of three other individuals involved in the crime. Lawyer Al-Kandari has vowed to follow-up the investigation and court procedures to ensure the suspects are sufficiently punished and the plaintiff adequately compensated. He also cautions GCC nationals to watch out for hackers and intruders while on social media, because they are targeted by criminals online.
