Monkeypox Still Poses A Threat But Covid-19 Fears Are Decreasing
The ongoing monkeypox outbreak continues to cause concern due to the worry that the viral disease might enter the country through travel, despite the Ministry of Health recently closing Covid-19 vaccination centers and launching vaccination services in 16 health centers in various areas throughout Kuwait. Dr. Ghanem Al-Hejailan, an infectious diseases expert, cautioned against closing the coronavirus file too soon in the face of unanticipated alterations while emphasizing that medical professionals, including the CDC, continue to advise social isolation and preventive measures.
According to an Arabic newspaper, Dr. Al-Hejailan called for caution regarding the monkeypox virus in a statement because it has a high likelihood of spreading to Kuwait given that there are already cases in the Gulf and that the majority of those who have been infected are from Europe, where a sizable number of Kuwaitis currently reside and are anticipated to return as soon as schools resume.
Internal medicine consultant Dr. Ghanem Al-Salem claimed that the MOH's decision to close vaccination clinics and administer vaccines in health facilities was made in an effort to leave the pandemic in the past and to teach people how to live alongside the virus in the same way that people had previously dealt with other viruses. While the world waits for the newest advances in Covid-19 or the introduction of other disease-causing viral viruses, he continued, vaccination initiatives had helped to flatten the curve, reduce the number of infected cases, and provide epidemiological stability. He claims that the MOH has a well-organized medical industry, particularly in epidemiology, which was developed in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
On the other hand, Dr. Al-Salem emphasized that despite the fact that the virus has been around for a very long time, the rapid spread of monkeypox has caught the attention of health organizations. This has led to worries about potential mutations and characteristics of the virus, particularly given that it is spread through direct physical contact. Meanwhile, he reaffirmed that the MOH closely observes any potential instances of tourists carrying monkeypox who enter the country and implementing international health norms for preventive measures.
