Momentum Gaining By Terminating Expat Contracts

25 December 2018 Kuwait

Several governmental bodies are racing against time in implementing the ‘Kuwaitization’ policy, which entails replacing expatriate employees with citizens in majority of jobs in the government sector, reports Al-Nahar daily.

Official data revealed that implementation of the policy endorsed by the Cabinet is gaining momentum by terminating the contracts of expatriates and avoiding the employment of expatriates except when national manpower is unavailable and on condition that this policy does not cripple services.

According to sources privy to the policy, several governmental bodies have started organizing training courses for Kuwaiti employees and benefiting from the expertise of expatriates for nationals to be qualified and trained in majority of employment posts.

The Civil Service Commission is keen on ensuring the policy is implemented together with the relevant decisions. This policy, which was issued in 2017, must be implemented in accordance with the principles and procedures which should be reviewed after five years.
