Moi To Unveil P-2-p System To Control Speeding On Main Roads And Highways
Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs and Operations Major General Jamal Al-Sayegh has released 18 new patrol vehicles to monitor speed limits of motorists on main roads and highways, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
General Department of Public Relations and Security Media at Ministry of Interior explained that the Director of Operations Department at General Traffic Department Colonel Yousef Al-Khudah gave a detailed explanation about these patrol vehicles.
He said they are installed with a Point-to-Point (P2P) system which captures image of the violating vehicles and their number plates on the front and rear ends. It also calculates the time taken by a vehicle from one point to another.
If the vehicle takes shorter time than the average time evaluated for the distance based on the permitted speed limits, it means the vehicle had covered that distance at a high speed. Colonel Al-Khudah revealed that the P2P system will be enforced on Jan 20 this year on Abdali Road from Kilo Mark 0 to Kilo Mark 80.
Major General Al-Sayegh affirmed the keenness of General Traffic Department to exert efforts in ensuring the systems are upgraded with the aim of providing necessary protection to the road users and controlling the traffic in order to minimize accidents and resultant casualties.
He stressed that the P2P system consists of eight smart cameras that are installed on Abdali Road, indicating that the increase in the number of cameras has contributed in reducing the number of traffic accidents in the year 2018 by six percent compared to the year 2017. Major General Al-Sayegh highlighted that there have not been any serious accidents on Nuwaiseeb Road during the year 2018.
