Moh Issued A Decision To Charge Expat Patients Kd 5 Per Physiotherapy Session

08 December 2017 Kuwait

Minister of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi issued a decision to charge expatriate patients KD 5 per physiotherapy session within the first 10 sessions, and doubled the fee to KD 10 for subsequent sessions.

In his reaction, Director of Physiotherapy Services Abdullah Zaman lauded the decision, saying it’s essential for drastically reducing the waiting list to improve the quality of service. He also said it will contribute to reduce the average rate of using equipment and visits to evening clinics.

He explained that expatriate patients used to enjoy the sessions for free, which negatively affected the quality of service due to overwhelming pressure on the hospitals. He indicated the new development will strengthen mutual responsibility where patients may complete treatment through the implementation of home program, which is scheduled to replace the previous complementary method that led to long duration of physiotherapy treatment. He reiterated “only patients who are actually in dire need of physiotherapy will attend the sessions henceforth”.
