Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Drug and Food Control Affairs, Dr Abdullah Al-Badr, announced the issuance of a decision by the Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Basil Al-Sabah to organize the sale of drugs which must be registered and priced in line with the latest Gulf and international standards.

Dr Al-Badr said in a press statement the new decision restricts the sale of medicine by pharmacies unless the medicine is registered and priced by the Ministry of Health, and the price written on it in Kuwaiti dinars in a clear and prominent place.

On the other hand the decision stipulates that private clinics or hospitals have no right to deal with any drug or medicine if it is not registered and priced by the Health Ministry and the price must be written clearly. He added, in line with the technological development, the Ministry of Health is committed to publishing drug prices on its official website, coinciding with its publication in the Official Gazette, in order to facilitate the patient and pharmacies to ensure that the price list is accessible to everyone.

He pointed out one of the articles of the decision stipulates that “the price of the innovative product is not reduced if any of the manufacturing rights are transferred locally” due to the protection of the patent and intellectual property rights.
