Mof Refuses Funds For 5 Vital Road Projects – Oil Projects Have Priority

05 October 2020 Information

The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) says the Ministry of Finance has refused to approve 5 vital road projects – two of which are the first and second stages of the Salmi Road development – two projects pertaining to the development of the Seventh Ring Road, and the Al-Naeem Road project in Jahra, reports Al-Rai daily quoting reliable MPW sources.

The sources added, the Public Authority for Roads Transport (PART) had earlier written to the Ministry of Finance to obtain its approval for the financial commitment towards these five projects prior to launching them, but was surprised by the Finance Ministry’s request to postpone the launch of those projects for some time.

The sources attributed the reason for the Finance Ministry’s refusal to approve the request to what it called “reducing the volume of spending on road projects during the current period, and allocating part of the state budget for urgent projects of the Ministry of Health, Electricity and Water and oil projects that have priority over road projects during the current period.” The sources explained the refusal to approve the those projects that are included in the ministry’s plan “would affect some other projects related to the development of the main roads, most notably the Al-Naeem Road project, since there is a plan to move poultry farms to that area, along with some residential city projects expected to be established to house residents.
