Moci Shuts 6 Electronic Companies And Shops For Price Manipulation
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced the closure of six electronic companies and shops specialized in the sale of electronics, specifically laptops, that were caught intentionally hiking the prices of their products. The aim was to take advantage of the exceptional circumstances that raised the demand for laptops as the school sessions went online forcing students to study at home, Al-Rai daily reported.
The ministry confirmed in a press statement that the inspection teams went around electronic shops, specifically (laptops, wifi devices, and computers) to follow up and confirm their commitment to the set prices and avoid deliberately inflating the cost of their products.
During the rounds, the teams were able to uncover a number of price manipulations by electronics companies in Hawalli Governorate, and they were dealt with in accordance with the laws in force 10/79, with their administrative closure.
The inspection teams present in all governorates will not hesitate to ensure market control, and all citizens and expats have to report any increase or unreasonable matter in the prices of products through the hotline 135.
The companies and commercial stores have to adhere to the regulations and standards and not to take advantage of any sudden need due to certain conditions to raise the prices of their products, since there is a continuous price survey by the Ministry’s price survey department who will penalize anyone caught manipulating or exploiting the current circumstances.
