Mixing Pfizer And Astrazeneca Is Safe, Boosts Immunity

27 May 2021 Coronavirus

The results of two studies showed that it is safe to mix the two vaccines, AstraZeneca and Pfizer. so that the first dose is from one and the second from the other. A combination of them will likely enhance immunity against Covid-19 disease, Al-Rai reported.

A Spanish study showed that the efficiency of vaccine against Covid-19 increases and is enhanced when the first dose is from AstraZeneca and the second is from Pfizer. The specialized medical journal The Lancet also published the results of a similar joint study conducted by the British Universities of Oxford and Nottingham, which included more than 460 participants, and concluded the same conclusion.

The Spanish researchers from the Carlos Health Institute examined volunteers under the age of 60 who received the Pfizer vaccine as a second dose 8 weeks after they received the first dose of AstraZeneca.

The research paper for that study stated that The immune system’s response and efficiency was greatly enhanced after the first dose of AstraZeneca and the second dose of Pfizer, while the observed adverse effects were within the limits of what would be expected, as they were mild to moderate and mostly limited to the first 3 days after receiving the vaccine.

Professor Peter Collignon, from the Australian National University School of Medicine, said, The global medical community may still be engaged in debate about whether mixing vaccines (hybrid vaccination) is possible and enhances immunity, but this research study came to confirm the matter and prove that it is possible to combine the two vaccines and get a better result.

But Professor Collignon was keen to point out that, despite this, there is still a need to obtain data from the practical application of the hybrid vaccination, to make sure in practice instead of relying solely on antibody data based on laboratory experiments.
