Misdemeanor Court Acquits 2 In Drunk Driving Accident
The Misdemeanor Court acquitted two individuals who were accused of consuming liquor and crashing their pickup vehicle onto a patrol vehicle that was parked alongside King Fahad Expressway.
The Public Prosecution had charged the first defendant of driving his pickup vehicle recklessly under a drunken state, exposing his life and the lives of others to danger and crashing his pickup vehicle on to a patrol vehicle. He was accused of driving without a driving license.
The second defendant was charged with recklessly driving the pickup vehicle, which is owned by the first defendant, under the influence of liquor and escaping from the scene without paying any consideration to the orders of securitymen. He was also accused of driving without a driving license. The arresting officer testified that he had parked his patrol vehicle beside King Fahad Expressway.
After some time, the pickup vehicle hit the patrol vehicle and the driver stepped out with a liquor bottle in his hand and in an apparent drunken state. Immediately, the driver’s friend sat on the driver’s seat and drove off from the location, and was also in a disoriented state. The first suspect (the driver) was arrested without any resistance. During the court session, the defense counsel Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan said the arrestand- search procedures were illegal, as no warrant was issued by the Public Prosecution, and his clients were not caught red-handed.
More cigarettes seized: Salmi Customs officers foiled an attempt to smuggle cigarettes and mild tobacco to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Kuwaiti authorities confiscated the items and referred the smuggler’s vehicle to the Land Custom Department. Customs officers got suspicious when they noticed the galvanized iron under the fuel tank of the vehicle. The officers used advanced equipment to inspect the vehicle, resulting in the discovery of the contraband. According to a reliable source, the officers found 50 packs of different types of cigarettes and cans of mild tobacco. He said the suspect’s vehicle will remain in custody of the authorities until completion of investigations by the Land Customs Department, indicating the law prohibits any passenger from carrying more than two packs of cigarettes.
