Ministry Stops Collecting Donations Through Credit Cards
The Management of Charities sector of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has stopped collecting donations through prepaid credit cards, reports Al-Jarida daily.
According to ministry sources the purpose is to prevent receiving external donations that may be away from the eyes of the ministry, or without obtaining the prior consent, and to tighten the control of money collecting operations and to ensure providing assistance to the beneficiaries, especially as these cards can be used abroad.
The sources said many charities have expressed their dissatisfaction with this precautionary measure, saying about 30 percent of the total donations are received by credit cards, but the ministry confirmed that the decision is irreversible and the purpose is to protect the charity work from vested interests and those who distort the image of charity work and does not meet the desired goals.
According to the sources the ministry has formed six task teams to monitor and prevent the violations concerning donations, 5 of them are charged with field work to monitor and prevent the irregularities of donations in mosques, markets and commercial complexes, and the elimination of all forms of voluntary donations in addition to the seizure of people coming to the country to collect donations, monitor and remove the collection boxes from “shops” or collection of clothing and surplus foods, while the sixth team is charged with tracking violations through social networking sites, which appear in the form of advertisements and take legal action against the publishers.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has asked the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to provide the names of charity societies which want to collect donations in mosques in all governorates saying the donations are to be made through bank deductions and KNet only.
On the other hand, a supervisor in the Department of Family Nursery at the Ministry of Social Affairs said, “His Highness the Amir pays great attention to the care of the orphans.” Having said that, the supervisor said HH the Amir was not simply chosen the Leader of Humanity by the world community. This is because of HH the Amir’s support in various humanitarian fields, including His Highness’s vision to support orphans inside and outside Kuwait.
