Ministry Of Health Vaccinates About 4,000 Prison Inmates, Runs Swabs Tests

As part of efforts aimed at confronting the Covid-19 epidemic, the Correctional Institutions and Sentence Enforcement Sector, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, has vaccinated about 4,000 prison inmates and also carried swabs tests to ensure they are free of Covid infections.

Al-Qabas sources said the swabs tests conducted on the prisoners resulted in the discovery of 250 positive cases and some of these cases were transferred to Farwaniya Hospital, amid preventive health measures and the other infected people were isolated from the rest of the inmates according to the procedures adopted by the Ministry of Health, noting that their condition is stable and there is no cause for concern.

The sources added there was one case of death among the inmates since the outbreak of the pandemic. A 59-year-old woman, who dies was suffering from several chronic diseases, and she died inside a hospital when she was taken for treatment.

The sources revealed that the prison sector, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, spares no effort to protect inmates and their health from the virus, pointing out that in the event of discovering new cases and infected people, the necessary precautionary, preventive and health measures are taken by a health committee.

The sources stressed that the Ministry of Interior is committed to all health and preventive measures, and that coordination continues around the clock with the Ministry of Health to conduct the necessary periodic, preventive and health checks, as the health and rehabilitation of inmates are among the priorities of the security institution.
