The Civil Service Commission requested the ministries of education and Awqaf to submit a list of names of expat employees for their posts to be filled by Kuwaiti citizens as part of the Kuwaitization policy and as the country takes steps to redress its population imbalance, Al Rai newspaper reported.

Expatriates with degrees in Islamic Sharia, psychology and history are the ones singled for replacement, according to well-informed sources.

The daily said that state commission daily answers job requests by governmental agencies by nominating Kuwaitis registered in its database for employment. The sources also mentioned that the commission is keen to push ahead with the Kuwaitisation policy.

In recent months, there have been increasing calls in Kuwait to redress the demographic imbalance, prompting several government bodies to outline plans to minimize the numbers of their expat employees, and as part of those measures, the visa transfer of government workers to the private sector is banned, and there are restrictions on transferring dependent visas to private sector work visas. In addition, the work permits for expats aged over 60 without a university degree will no longer be renewed.

Foreigners account for nearly 3.4 million of Kuwait’s 4.8 million population.
