Minister Says Government Provides Unlimited Support For Cultural Movements

Dr. Hamad Rouh Al-Din, Minister of Information and Culture and Chairman of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, said that activating the role of cultural institutions stems from the wise political leadership's directives and the government's unrestricted support for the development of Kuwait's cultural movement.

He was speaking at the start of the 27th edition of the Al-Qurain Cultural Festival, which is being held at the Abdul-Hussein Abdul-Ridha Theater in Salmiya under the patronage of HH Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and will run until March 30, according to a local Arabic daily quoting KUNA.

The Al-Qurain Cultural Festival, which returns after a long break caused by the novel coronavirus (Covid 19) epidemic, is a well-established celebration in Kuwaiti minds to honor Kuwait's intellectuals, artists, and writers, according to the Minister of Information and Culture.

He further said that the poet Dr. Suad Al-Sabah (personality of the Arab Poetry Day) was chosen for her illustrious role in extending Arabic literature with its poetic, cultural, and human output until it became a "national symbol," as her poetry, papers, and historical writings contributed to putting Kuwait on the map.

Abdullah Bishara received the State Prize in the field of (culture services), while Khazal Al-Qaffas received it in the field of (plastic arts), and Dr. Yaqoub Al-Hajji received it in the field of (social sciences).

The "Encouragement" State Prize was given to sculptor Fahd Al-Hajri in the field of (plastic and applied arts), film director Sadeq Behbehani in the field of (film directing), Abdulaziz Al-Murshed in the field of (TV directing), Dr. Abdullah Al-Shayji in the field of (political science), and Dr. Noura Al-Habashi in the field of (historical and archaeological studies and folk traditions), Youssef Al-Bannai in (literary translation), Abdullah Al-Otaibi in (the short story), Dr. Abdullah Al-Hajri in (history and archeology), Hessa Al-Nabhan in (theatrical acting) and Ahmed Al-Mutawa in (children’s literature).
