Mew Will Rectify All Loopholes Recorded During The Experimental Phase Of The Installation Of Smart Meters

09 February 2017 Kuwait

The Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) will rectify all loopholes recorded during the experimental phase of the installation of smart meters about a year ago to check their efficiency and capacity to manage demand for electricity, reports Arab Times daily quoting informed sources.

Sources affirmed the ministry will put into consideration the issue of providing prepaid cards round the clock in accordance with the terms and conditions of an agreement with a company in charge of the infrastructure for this project. Sources added that there will be 24-hour service automated teller machines (ATM) in cooperative societies and other places where people can get prepaid cards.

This came after several incidents and complaints of electricity supply disruptions in buildings where the experimental smart meters were installed in Hawally as the residents faced difficulties in getting prepaid cards, especially when electricity is disconnected at night. It has been reported the prepaid cards are not available in cooperative societies, only in some shops which are usually closed at night.
