Mew Is Investigating Its Position On 60 Million Gallons Of Water Per Day

16 February 2022 Kuwait

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy is debating whether to move forward with the project to supply, install, operate, and maintain the Doha Seawater Reverse Osmosis Plant (Phase Two), as recommended by the Central Agency for Public Tenders or to maintain its stance and cancel the project, which is expected to produce 60 million gallons per day.

According to Al-Rai, the Ministry of Electricity and Water has not yet made a decision on the project, despite the fact that its request to cancel it was rejected by the Central Agency for Public Tenders a short time ago and Minister Dr. Mohammad Abdullatif Al-Fares was eager to make a quick decision in this regard because the agency's closure period has been extended until February 22.

"The ministry had previously asked the agency to cancel the aforementioned tender, claiming that it will compensate for its water needs in the coming years from the production of the Az-Zour North (Phase II) and Al-Khair stations (Phase 1) projects, but the agency was not convinced by the ministry's reasons," according to the sources. The cancellation request was denied, allowing the project to move forward.

"Since the first preliminary meeting on September 20, 2021, nothing new has been mentioned about this project, whose closure period has been extended multiple times, except for the ministry's letter asking the agency to cancel the proposal," according to sources.
