Meed Fish Returned To The Market After 5 Months Ban On Its Fishing

Meed fish returned to the market on Saturday after a five-month ban on its fishing, and citizens throng the fish markets to buy the favorite fish that tastes lovely, especially when grilled. Chairman of Kuwaiti Fishermen Association Dhaher Al-Suwayan affi rmed the season for Meed fishing started Saturday, July 1.

He added the fish is in high demand due to its unique taste, assuring the association is striving to guarantee the supply of seafood for consumers at affordable prices, while ensuring availability. He noted some 800 Kuwaiti fishermen have licensed fishing boats, and the fish caught are meant for the local market to ensure price stability.

He indicated the association is always keen on providing enough fish and shrimps in the local market, and follows up the activities for the sake of the public.

On behalf of the association, Al- Suwayan urged the government to increase the annual subsidy for fishing sector, and build a village for fishermen, in addition to inaugurating the Doha Port to serve as the source of shrimp fishing in August instead of Umm Al-Maradem Port.
