Meed: China's Pipeline Disruption Impacts Kuwait's Oil Projects

30 April 2022 Kuwait

The prolonged shutdowns in China, according to MEED magazine, are having a severe influence on the progress of oil and gas projects in Kuwait. According to a local Arabic newspaper, the import of shipments of steel plates and tubes scheduled to come from Shanghai Port to Kuwait for use in oil sector projects has been cancelled.

"Contracts are now in negotiations with reference to what is occurring with the shipments from Shanghai," one of the individuals said, "and it is anticipated that the concerns will be resolved without the need for a judicial remedy." The coronavirus pandemic in China has brought entire towns to a halt and has wreaked havoc on the industrial industry.

Due to China's so-called zero-infection policy, about 373 million people — almost a quarter of the country's population — have been subjected to virus-related restrictions in recent weeks, and there are worries that the additional closures may create significant disruption to global supply chains.

The difficulties with procuring from China occur as Kuwaiti contractors attempt to find alternatives to Russian suppliers, a scenario that has gotten worse since Russia and Ukraine started fighting.
