Masters Degree Valid
The Court of Cassation ruled that the Ministry of Higher Education must equate the Master’s degree obtained by the plaintiff from a university in Bahrain and the implication of that decision. Representing the plaintiff was Lawyer Sultan Al-Tawalah, who said his client enrolled in one of the universities in Bahrain — Delmon University of Science and Technology — to obtain a Master’s degree.
The accreditation of that university was withdrawn before his client finished her studies, prompting her to seek approvals which allowed her to finish in another university in Bahrain. She completed her studies and obtained a master’s degree from that university.
However, the Ministry of Higher Education declined to equate her Master’s certificate, rendering her to protest the decision in the Administration Court where it was rejected. She went on to appeal the ruling and the Court of Cassation overturned the ministry’s decision on the basis that his client had followed proper protocol and received all necessary approvals which preserved the integrity of her studies. The court affirmed that her Master’s certificate is considered valid and that the higher education authority in Kuwait had no right to refuse evaluation of her certificate.
