13 January 2020 Crime News

Information obtained by the Al-Rai daily, shows the man who stabbed to death an unidentified Omani in the British capital London near the Harrods store to steal his expensive watch, is not a Kuwaiti as has been claimed by the suspect in front of a judge in the UK, reports Al-Rai daily.

The information shows the suspect was born in Iraq in 1996, and his parents were residing in Kuwait before the Iraqi invasion as ‘bedoun’ but they left for Iraq in 1992, and settled in the Al-Maya area in the city of Nasiriyah in Dhi Qar Governorate. The suspect has brothers who were born in Kuwait before the invasion.

The sources added the young man and his relatives migrated to Britain illegally in 2010, but they have not been granted residence until now due to the behavior of some family members, especially that one of his brother is accused of killing a British woman. He is mandated to wear an electronic bracelet and his movements are monitored to ensure that he does not escape or disappear.

News reports stated that during the trial session, the accused did not speak anything except to give the judges his name and address – on Beaconsfield Street in the Brent district of northwest London – and claimed he was a Kuwaiti citizen.

Reports quoting judicial sources in Britain said the accused, identified only as B.R., was taken under security guard to appear before the Westminster District Court at Old Bailey Complex, yesterday, on charges of killing university student 20 years old Muhammad Abdullah Al-Araimi.

The Omani student was stabbed to death after being attacked near the prestigious Harrods store in the Knights bridge neighborhood early on December 5, 2019.

According to case papers, Al- Araimi was on his way back to his house at night after having a meal with a number of his friends when he was attacked, and he was officially declared dead in the early hours of Friday, December 6.
