Man Was Accused Of Consuming Drugs

The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance which sentenced a Bedoun man to jail term of three years and four months with hard labor followed by deportation, and imposed a fine of KD 2,000. The court instead acquitted him. According to the case files, the Bedoun man was accused of consuming drugs and illegal brain stimulants after he was arrested by police officers in Jahra Stables area. According to the arresting officer’s testimony, he was following up a robbery report received by the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior when he came across the suspect, who along with some individuals, starting running away as soon as they saw the police. During the police chase, the officer cornered the suspect inside a horse stable and arrested him. Sensing his disoriented state, the officer checked him to find drugs and drug paraphernalia. However, the defense counsel Lawyer Esmat Al-Kharboutli insisted that the police arrested her client illegally because he had no legal grounds to stop him or search him, adding that he did everything without receiving permission from the Public Prosecution.
