Major Violent Events That Captured The World’s Attention In 2020

The globe was a scene of many violent actions that claimed lives of many people and injured many others.
The year began with the killing of Qassem Suleimani, commander of Iran’s Al-Quds Brigade, and deputy commander of Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandes outside Baghdad airport.
Following are major violent acts: Jan. 1: India declared two soldiers were killed in an armed clash with Pakistani troops at the demarcation line of contested Kashmir.
Jan. 1: Taliban gunmen launched two attacks killing 15 soldiers and wounding two others in northern Afghanistan.
Jan. 3: Commander of the Iranian paramilitary force, Al-Quds Brigades, Qassem Suleimani and deputy chief of the irregular Iraqi force, Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandes, died in an American air strike near Baghdad airport.
Jan. 7: A booby-trapped motorcycle blew up killing two persons and wounding 14 others including security personnel in Baloshistan, southern Pakistan.
Jan. 8: Iran declared striking with missiles the US air base in Ain Al-Assad, Syria, in retaliation for assassinating Qassem Suleimani, chief of the Iranian paramilitary force, Al-Quds Brigades.
Jan. 10: India said Pakistani artillery shelling on positions near the line of control in Kashmir killed two persons and wounded three others.
Jan. 10: A blast in a mosque killed four people including a senior police officer and wounded 20 others in Quetta, provincial capital of Baluchistan, southern Pakistan.
Jan. 12: A bomb blast ripped through a military vehicle boarding US troops killing two soldiers in Kandahar, southern Afghanistan.
Jan. 20: Three gunmen, suspected members of Al-Mujahideen organization, died in a firefight with Indian security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir in the north.
Jan. 21: Two Indian police officers died in clashes in the Indian-patrolled sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
Jan. 24: The Pentagon revealed that 34 US troops suffered brain concussion and other painful symptoms in the Iranian air strike on the base in Ain Al-Assad.
Jan. 29: Taliban gunmen carried out an attack killing 13 Afghan troops and wounding 12 others in Kunduz, North Afghanistan.
Jan. 30: An American military plane crashed in Ghazni, Afghanistan, killing two pilots, the Pentagon said.
Jan. 31: Three gunmen died and once police officer were wounded in armed clashes in Jammu and Kashmir.
Feb. 2: Police killed a man in Streatham, South London, after he stabbed pedestrians.
Feb. 7: US President Donald Trump declared chief of Al-Qaeda group in the Arabian Peninsula, Qassem Al-Rimi, was killed in a US raid in Yemen.
Feb. 9: Two American troops and an Afghan soldier died and nine troops were wounded in an attack in Nangarhar, East Afghanistan.
Feb. 11: A suicide attack on a military academy in the Afghan capital Kabul killed nine people including four soldiers and wounded 12 others.
Feb. 13: The French Army declared its forces killed at least 30 gunmen in operations coordinated with Africa’s Sahel states against Al-Qaeda organization and the so-called Islamic State (IS).
Feb. 7: A suicide bombing attack killed seven persons and wounded two others in Quetta, Pakistan.
Feb. 27: Up to 24 people died and more than 200 others were injured in clashes between supporters and opponents of a new citizenship law in Northeast Delhi.
March 4: Taliban gunmen executed an armed assault in Kunduz and Uruzgan, respectively in the north and center of Afghanistan, killing 20 Afghan soldiers. Simultaneously, American forces raided Taliban strongholds in Helmand, South Afghanistan.

April 29: At least 14 civilians were killed in a roadside bomb explosion that struck a passenger in province of Daikundi, Afghanistan. May 1: Afghan Ministry of Defense stated that more than four Afghan soldiers and 15 Taliban were killed in a violent clash Afghanistan’s eastern Logar province.
May 14: At least five civilians lost their lives in a car suicide bomb explosion in front of the gate of a Defense Ministry facility in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktia province.
May 18: Suicide car bombing kills seven people belonging to the National Directorate of Security in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province.
May 19: Seven Pakistani soldiers killed in two terror attacks in Baluchistan province, Southwest Pakistan.
May 25: African-American George Floyd was chocked to death after a US policeman placed his knee on his kneck and kept pressing until he passed away.

June 2: Two people were killed during unrest in Chicago as protests continued over the death of Floyd.
June 5: French forces killed the leader of the Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb in an operation that took a place in Mali.
June 6: More than 11 members of the Afghan local police were killed over a roadside blast in northeast Afghanistan.
June 8: At least two people were killed and eight others were injured after a roadside bombing by PPK in eastern Turkey.
June 12: Pakistan’s authorities announced that a powerful bomb blast at a crowded bazaar in the Pakistani garrison city of Rawalpindi resulted in killing at least one person and wounding 15 others.
June 12: A deadly bomb blast ripped through a mosque led to killing four people and wounding eight others in Kabul city, Afghanistan.
