Lockdown Period In Farwaniya Was Painful
The lockdown period in Farwaniya has been very difficult, especially for those who could not leave for work, especially since many people had to stay put in their homes, while some would have opted to travel to their home countries while yet others said although they have lived and worked in Kuwait for several years the past five months have been a testing time for them, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The period of lockdown was difficult for most of the Farwaniya residents, especially the daily wage workers and this forced them to wait in queue for long hours to obtain free meals provided daily by the social workers and charity committees.
The residents of Farwaniya praised the security authorities for what they called ‘job well done’ as some of those living inside Farwaniya were allowed to leave the area on humanitarian grounds to go to the Farwaniya Hospital when required. In the midst of all this a resident of the area who identified himself as Hamada Abdel-Younis called on the necessity of real estate owners to waive the rents of the apartments during the lockdown period and claims he has been threatened with eviction because he was unable to pay the rent for 3 months. He says he hopes the government will consider special cases of those who could not pay the rent.
Several residents had to tell their pitiful stories as some survived on just bread and falafel while others made ends meet on assistance provided by the charity societies and good-hearted businessmen.
