Life In Jail To 15 Years For Drug Peddler
The Court of Appeal chaired by Judge Nasr Al-Heid has commuted the life jail term against a Bedoun drug peddler to 15 years in prison with hard labor and KD10,000 fine for allegedly firing gunshots at security operatives. The Public Prosecution Department charged the suspect of possessing varieties of illicit drugs meant for sale, in addition to unlicensed gun and bullets. The Criminal Court previously sentenced him in absentia to death, but he appealed the verdict and got life imprisonment but the Court of Appeal commuted the term after a series of arguments by the defense counsel.
Jail, fine imposed: The Court of Cassation sentenced a Saudi national to seven-year imprisonment, imposed a fine of KD 225,000, and obligated him to return the house he was granted by Kuwait Government and the money he acquired after obtaining Kuwaiti citizenship through forgery. The Public Prosecution charged the Saudi national with forging official documents particularly birth certificate. He had presented a fake birth certificate to an official to prove he was born to a Kuwaiti citizen, and the place of birth was Saudi Arabia from where he claimed to have obtained the birth certificate. Based on this fake certificate, the official issued a Kuwaiti birth certificate to the suspect. The Public Prosecution also charged him of helping a Kuwaiti citizen commit forgery when he gave him money and photograph in order to add him to his file. He gave false information when he pretended to be an 18-year old Kuwaiti citizen even though he looked and behaved much older than that age.
