The Criminal Section in the Court of Cassation, headed by Judge Nayef Al-Dahoum, sentenced former Deputy Secretary-General of the SalafiMovement Dr Hakim Al-Mutairi to life imprisonment in absentia in a State Security case dubbed as ‘Gaddafi’s tent leaks’, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Earlier, the State Security Unit at the Ministry of Interior referred Al-Mutairi to the Public Prosecution in relation to information leakage involving former Libyan president Muammar Gaddafi. Al-Mutairi faced several State Security charges, such as spreading false news and offending the Amiri entity. Case files indicate that information was leaked through social media in the form of an audio recording of Al-Mutairi talking about the situation in the region and plans to use the tribes to instigate chaos in a number of Gulf countries and ouster the regimes in these countries during his meeting with the former Libyan president.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Court sentenced MP Marzouq Al-Khalifa, former MP Sultan Al-lghaissim and six other individuals to two years in jail for participating in the by-elections of Shammar Tribe in the Fourth Constituency; while the rest of those involved in the case were acquitted. The court also allowed those convicted to post bail of 5,000 each to suspend the implementation of the verdict. It has been reported that all the defendants denied the accusations hurled at them as follows: organizing and calling for by-elections before the 2020 National Assembly election to choose a member of the tribe to contest the legislative election and violating the health regulations laid down by the Ministry of Health in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.
