Liberation Tower Reopens To Public ‘free Of Charge’
Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Communications, Kholoud Al-Shehab, announced the reopening of the Liberation Tower to receive the public, starting Sunday, coinciding with the country’s celebrations of national holidays. Al-Shehab said in a statement to reporters on the occasion of the reopening of the tower that the public reception will be available to everyone free of charge during the month of February only, pointing out that the first opening of the tower was in 1996 and lasted for a few days. She added that the tower was re-equipped with a hall containing some of the historical memorabilia of the Ministry of Communications that tell the history of the ministry over many decades.
She stated that the Liberation Tower is considered one of the most important landmarks of the State of Kuwait, as its construction began in 1986 and stopped during the invasion period, and work was resumed in 1993 and its construction was completed in 1996. She added that the 372-meter- high tower was inaugurated by the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God rest his soul, in March 1996. It is the second tower in terms of height after the Al-Hamra Tower. She noted the “great and sincere efforts” of the ministry’s youth, as well as the support of telecommunications companies and many government agencies to fully rehabilitate the hall in the tower so that it is ready to receive the public during this month.
She stressed the ministry’s interest in informing the public about the importance of the Liberation Tower, which will include in its hall videos and publications on the most important information about the ministry, as well as a presentation of some valuables about its history in the telecommunications and postal sectors. Al-Shehab said that the hall in which the audience will be present overlooks all directions (the capital) at an angle of 360 degrees to give a complete view that serves photography enthusiasts, pointing out also to the ministry’s keenness to support the owners of small projects by allocating a space for them in the external courtyard of the Liberation Tower. She indicated the ministry’s keenness to implement the health requirements for entering the tower by specifying specific numbers in the hall, with the possibility of booking entry from the Liberation Tower’s website. She explained that the morning period has been allocated from 9 am to 1 pm and will be reserved for students of schools and official bodies, while the evening period will be for the rest of the public from 3 to 9 pm.
