Lawyers Claim Search And Arrest Procedures Are Increasing Drug Cases
Lawyers have issued warnings about the pervasive spread of narcotics in the nation, pointing out that scores of people involved in drug possession, promotion, and consumption are freed thanks to the invalidity of the search and arrest procedures.
According to a local Arabic newspaper, the jurists noted that the problem of drug spread has gotten worse and that urgent solutions must be devised. They also noted that the bulk of cases of beating, theft, violence, and murder are connected to drug misuse.
In order to fight the drug epidemic, attorney Osama Al-Sanad emphasized the importance of making bold judgments fit for this time period. Al-Sanad told the newspaper that the courts hear dozens of drug-related cases each month and that many of these cases always involve other crimes like beatings, theft, violence, murder, and other multiple offences. He also noted that over the course of ten years, there were about 20,000 drug cases reported. According to Al-Sanad, 3,175 cases were filed with the Drug and Liquor Prosecution in 2021, in addition to 3,219 contraband-related offences that the prosecution received.
He noted that compared to the 1,494 offences recorded in 2020 and 2,133 in 2019, there were approximately 2,363 drug and substance misuse offences reported throughout 2021. He attributed a number of factors, such as family dissolution, a lack of parental involvement or attention to the details of the children's lives, as well as a failure to notice changes in the behaviour of the children, to the spread of drugs among adolescents and young adults in Kuwait. As a result, it is crucial to develop awareness and educational programs to support families.
